At Ridgeway Interiors, we believe in taking responsibility for our impact on the environment.
As a prominent kitchen retailer with two showrooms and a large team, we are acutely aware of our carbon footprint. That's why we've committed to making significant changes to reduce and offset our environmental impact, inspired by the sustainable practices of our trusted suppliers.
For years, we've worked with suppliers who are committed to sustainability. These partners source their materials from sustainable forests, ensuring trees are planted for every tree used. They go beyond just reforestation by recycling wood chippings and using solar panels on their factory roofs for electricity generation. Their dedication extends to reducing carbon emissions by using larger vehicles for fewer trips and shipping goods overseas via hybrid rail.
Their practices have inspired us to adopt similar initiatives within our business.
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
We know that our operations contribute to a significant carbon footprint and are determined to change that. Over the past year, we've made several fundamental changes:
1. Switching to Electric Air Conditioning: We replaced our oil heating system with a more energy-efficient electric air conditioning system this year. This move significantly reduces our reliance on fossil fuels.
2. Renewable Energy Commitment: Last year, we switched to a renewable energy supplier for all our showrooms and offices, ensuring that our electricity comes from sustainable sources.
3. Improved Waste Management: We've implemented better recycling and waste management practices across our facilities. By minimising waste and maximising recycling, we are reducing waste sent to landfills.
4. Eco-Friendly Transport: We recently purchased an electric Tesla for our installation manager, who covers the most mileage in our fleet. This switch from diesel to electric is just the beginning. We plan to replace all our diesel vehicles with electric ones as their leases expire.
Looking Forward
We're not done yet and are committed to continuing this journey toward sustainability. Our future plans include installing solar panels on our showrooms to reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy further.
